Winter Storm Nemo, a.k.a. the blizzard going on outside for tens of millions of Americans, is doing its thing. But why does a big snowstorm need a name?
You can thank The Weather Channel alone for the moniker, it turns out.
It also turns out that the National Weather Service is not amused.
The massive New York / Northeast / New England snow storm will be among the biggest on record, but the region has seen plenty of snow in the past.
Why is this one so special? And why Winter Storm Nemo of all names?
Here’s the Weather Channel’s rationale for naming the blizzard:
First, he alleged that Matt Lauer threw Ann Curry under a bus.
Then, he randomly stared into the camera for 17 straight seconds (below).
So the question must be asked: what the heck is going on with Al Roker and The Today Show? Is the famous weatherman trying to sabotage his own program for the way it (mis)handled Curry’s firing?
Roker addressed yesterday’s strange staredown on this morning’s edition of the series, trying to laugh it off, claiming it was a “brain freeze” and adding that the director was “egging him on.”

Making good on a promise he made not even 48 hours ago, Charlie Sheen has officially quit Twitter, leaving his 7.7 million followers emotionally reeling.
Fortunately, he departed with one final, inspiring Tweet:
“reach for the stars everyone. dogspeed cadre. c out.”
Sheen signed onto Twitter fairly recently in March 2011, after he was fired from Two and a Half Men and began lambasting his former bosses online.
He has been a regular tweeter ever since, offering sage-like pearls of wisdom to the general public and plugging his new show Anger Management.
It’s unclear why he decided to closeMore >
Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera stunned viewers with remarks about the Trayvon Martin case, saying that by wearing a hooded sweatshirt, the slain teen made himself a target.
Martin, the 14-year-old candy-carrying, hoodie-wearing African-American boy, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch captain.
He was walking home from a 7-Eleven and was unarmed. Zimmerman, who claimed self defense, has not been charged, though a grand jury will hear the case.
Martin supporters participated in a “Million Hoodie March” to protest Zimmerman’s freedom. But the hoodie hasMore >
Meghan McCain, daughter of U.S. Senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain, poses for Playboy this month. Innocently, of course.
Her mere presence in the men’s mag (and some of the quotes she gave in an interview with it) are sure to raise eyebrows, but this one pic is it. Sorry.
Meghan revealed to Playboy that she “almost overdosed on Xanax” the day before the 2008 election, and dismissed any rumors that she is gay.
Using an obscene rhyme, Meghan, a same-sex marriage advocate, said was “strictly d!ckly” (straight), adding: “I can’t help it. I love sex and I loveMore >
Last year, on her 42nd birthday, celebrity gossip tabloids were saying that Jennifer Aniston was lonely and going through inner turmoil on a daily basis.
What a difference a year makes.
With a serious boyfriend in Justin Theroux, a career that’s taken some fun new turns, and a face and body that seem to look better with age (we didn’t know that was possible, but Aniston’s defying the odds), she’s on top of the world.
We’re sure the Brad Pitt rumors (reconciliation/love child/whatever) will surface again soon. That’s just how the tabloids roll … every month of every year.
But today, on herMore >

The best thing about Bachelor Pad is that ABC, with its dramatic music, editing nuances and constant winks at the audience, doesn’t take it too seriously.
Some cast members, however, take themselves very seriously.
The second season kicked off with 16 castoffs and two “winners” from past seasons. To the surprise of no one, those winners dominated the premiere.
Let’s break down the summer’s first enthralling episode of Jake Pavelka vs. Vienna Girardi, Part III, a.k.a. Bachelor Pad 2, in THG’s official +/- recap:
The cast reminds us early and often that they’re there for the $250,000. MinusMore >

As the weather heats up across the United States, the same can be said for the relationship between Mayra Veronica and Reggie Bush.
Simply put, a source tells Radar Online “they’re officially dating and it’s getting serious… Their feelings are getting stronger all the time.”
The pair met back in 2006 – and THG actually profiled Veronica three years ago, long before her and Bush were an item – but kept their contact to phone conversations while Reggie was dating Kim Kardashian.
But soon after this couple called it quits in March, the model and the running back started spending a lot of timeMore >
