Winter Storm Nemo, a.k.a. the blizzard going on outside for tens of millions of Americans, is doing its thing. But why does a big snowstorm need a name?
You can thank The Weather Channel alone for the moniker, it turns out.
It also turns out that the National Weather Service is not amused.
The massive New York / Northeast / New England snow storm will be among the biggest on record, but the region has seen plenty of snow in the past.
Why is this one so special? And why Winter Storm Nemo of all names?

Making good on a promise he made not even 48 hours ago, Charlie Sheen has officially quit Twitter, leaving his 7.7 million followers emotionally reeling.
Fortunately, he departed with one final, inspiring Tweet:
“reach for the stars everyone. dogspeed cadre. c out.”
Sheen signed onto Twitter fairly recently in March 2011, after he was fired from Two and a Half Men and began lambasting his former bosses online.
He has been a regular tweeter ever since, offering sage-like pearls of wisdom to the general public and plugging his new show Anger Management.

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera stunned viewers with remarks about the Trayvon Martin case, saying that by wearing a hooded sweatshirt, the slain teen made himself a target.
Martin, the 14-year-old candy-carrying, hoodie-wearing African-American boy, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a Sanford, Fla., neighborhood watch captain.

Jason London of SyFy’s Weather Wars is heading to the altar with his actress girlfriend of more than two years, Sofia Karstens, London tells E! News.
The brother of Jeremy London sealed the deal Saturday night in L.A. when he proposed to his lady love with a ring passed down by her grandmother.
“I love waking up with my best friend every morning,” London said, with Karstens adding, “I feel so lucky to have such an amazing man in my life.”
Jason London and Sofia Karstens will wed next July 16.
