The first “alien Earth” planet is likely to be spotted next year, according to astronomers.
An epic discovery that would cause humanity to reassess its place in the universe, the feat is believed to be possible, even likely, by scientists in 2013.
Researchers have honed in on a number of exoplanets in recent years that share key traits with our own world, such as size or inferred surface temperature.
They have yet to bag a bona fide “alien Earth.” But just wait, scientists say.

Suzy Favor Hamilton, a former U.S. Olympian in track and field, issued a formal apology today after her life as an escort in Las Vegas was exposed.
In a story on The Smoking Gun, the 44-year old admitted she has worked under the alias “Kelly Lundy,” for the past year, selling herself for $600 an hour.
Favor Hamilton lives with her husband, Mark, and seven-year daughter and told the website that the former “tried to stop” her and “wasn’t supportive” of the escort lifestyle at all.

Jabari Parker, Star High School Recruit, Commits to Duke
Folks in Durham, North Carolina have reason to celebrate today.
Jabari Parker, considered by many to be the best high school senior in the nation, announced this afternoon that he will attend Duke University in 2013, instantly boosting the Blue Devils’ title chances a year from now.
Parker is a 6’8″ forward who attends Simeon Career Academy in Chicago.
His all-around game has been compared to players such as Grant Hill and he’s considered a surefire top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
In the end, Parker selected Duke over Michigan State, BYU, Florida and Stanford.

Josh Brent Arrested For DUI Manslaughter, Jerry Brown Killed in Car Crash
Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent is facing a manslaughter charge after a one-vehicle accident that killed linebacker Jerry Brown, a member of the team’s practice squad.
Irving, Tex., police spokesman John Argumaniz said the crash happened at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, just hours before Brent was to fly with the team to Cincinnati to face the Bengals.
The 25-year-old Jerry Brown – a practice-squad linebacker who also was Brent’s teammate for three seasons at the University of Illinois – was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Chamique Holdsclaw 911 Tape: Did WNBA Star Try to Blow Up Jennifer Lacy?
Chamique Holdsclaw, the ex-WNBA and University of Tennessee basketball star, is currently free on bail, following her arrest this week for allegedly firing a gun at ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lacy.
But new, disturbing information has leaked out regarding the incident, courtesy of a 911 call placed by a friend of Lacy’s, who was in the vehicle when the Holdsclaw confrontation took place.
This friend describes Holdsclaw as “mentally unstable.”
She goes on to tell the operator that the former Rookie of the Year poured gasoline all over Lacy’s Range Rover, presumably to set it on fire.

New Fern Species Named For Lady Gaga
Botanists at Duke University have honored Lady Gaga by naming a new genus of ferns – consisting of an impressive 19 species – after the eclectic pop superstar.

What gave Duke the idea to do this?
“We wanted to name this genus for Lady Gaga because of her fervent defense of equality and individual expression,” said Kathleen Pryer, Duke Professor of Biology.
“And as we started to consider it, the ferns themselves gave us more reasons why.”

According to a new report, James Holmes actually alerted a psychologist at the University of Colorado to his plans to commit mass murder… only the recipient never opened the package in question.

James Holmes Identified as Colorado Shooting Suspect
James Holmes has been identified as the suspect who opened fire inside a Colorado movie theater early this morning, injuring over 50 attendees and killing at least 12 people on hand to watch a screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
The 24-year old is in police custody.
