According to a new report, the odds of seeing that headline are increasing by the day.
Sources tell Radar Online that new Today Show producer Alexandra Wallace has made it very clear: Lauer will be a goner if program ratings do not improve.

So the question must be asked: what the heck is going on with Al Roker and The Today Show? Is the famous weatherman trying to sabotage his own program for the way it (mis)handled Curry’s firing?

Ann Curry will be fired from The Today Show any moment now.
So reports TMZ, which claims the anchor and the NBC morning program are simply haggling over contract details.
Curry is owed $20 million over the next two years and reportedly wants to pocket that dough and take her walking papers, while the network wants to give her half that amount and stick her as a foreign correspondent.
Either way, Savannah Guthrie has already struck a deal with Today and will take over for Curry as soon as she leaves, which prompts the obvious question: Which reporter would you rather… watch?
Ann Curry Firing to Cost The Today Show Millions

If/when Ann Curry gets fired from Today, it will cost NBC a pretty penny.
Actually, many pretty pennies. More pretty pennies than a celebrity gossip website knows how to count.
Network insiders tell TMZ that Curry is definitely a goner next week, and that the ousting will cost NBC close to $30 million because the co-host signed a long-term contract in 2011 that guarantees her $10 million/year.
That number ought to soften the blow, huh?
Curry is also rumored to become a foreign correspondent for NBC News, a capacity that will involve… who cares?!? $30 million?!? YEESH!

Matt Lauer has softened his position about leaving the Today show in December at the end of his contract … if NBC will pay up big time, that is.
The sexy beast currently earns $17 million a year. Negotiations are currently ongoing that could net Lauer could as much as $30 MILLION a year.
That will make a lot of people soften positions about retiring, we would have to imagine. But was Lauer’s change of heart motivated by something else?
Some say Lauer changed his mind about leaving when network execs showed interest in Ryan Seacrest as a replacement … and got jealous.

Last night (July 15), fans flocked in great numbers to see Chris Brown perform on “Today” show’s Summer Concert Series. To catch a glimpse of Breezy for free, more than 18,000 fans showed up at the Rockefeller Plaza.
According to the Twitter page of “Today” show, “The crowd for @ChrisBrown concert is now the biggest @todayshow crowd ever!”
When Brown was made aware of his record-breaking lure, he also logged in on his official Twitter account and tweeted, “18 to 20 thousand people showed up at 7 this morning! That’s crazy!!

After weeks of making the talk show circuit rounds to announce her resignation from NBC’s Today Show, Meredith Vieira finally said her last buh-bye this morning.
In a fitting tribute to daytime main-stay Vieira, the other co-hosts complimented her over and over again as she tearfully listened.
“You have changed my life,” Roker said. “You have changed all of these people’s lives. And we will always, always hold a spot in our hearts. You are the best. I love you.”

We’re kidding. Rob’s character in Water for Elephants is named Jacob, though. Pretty funny, although he says he never realized the coincidence.
Another strange thing he never thought about? Playing Reese Witherspoon’s son in a movie role back in 2004, then playing her love interest now!

Matt Lauer may say he’s considering leaving the Today Show, but really, sexy beast just wants to line those coffers, if you follow where we’re coming from.
Unlike Glenn Beck leaving Fox, Katie Couric exiting CBS or Matt’s own co-host Meredith Vieira bolting Today, Matt’s only real endgame is a bigger payday.
At least according to TMZ, which reports that he’s angling for a $25 million contract. ANNUALLY. Matt currently pays the bills on a measly $17 million.

James Franco is having a great day, first he gets a “best actor” nod for his role in 127 Hours and he’s hosting the Academy Awards show alongside the gorgeous Anne Hathaway.

After posing for the picture, Franco spoke with Today Show hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera about his nomination, to which he said:
“It’s a Big Honor” and “It feels great. I’m here in New Haven. I’m about to go to class.”

Michael Douglas Beats Cancer

Movie star Michael Douglas has announced that his six month battle with Stage III throat cancer has been won. Douglas announced his victory over the disease during a Monday Today Show interview with Matt Lauer that will air on Tuesday.
Douglas told Lauer:
“I feel good, relieved. The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there’s not a total euphoria. I’ll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out. But it’s been a wild six-month ride.”
In October Douglas completed his last round of chemotherapy and was told by doctors

In discussing his life on a pair of morning shows this week, Ted Williams said he has nine children, seven girls and two boys. He said he hopes his tale – of success, followed by a downfall, followed by a new discovery of his incredible voice – will inspire his kids and others.
