The Hunger Games DVD Sales: HUGE!

Katniss Everdeen has taken her bow and arrow to The Twilight Saga and hit a bull’s eye:

The Hunger Games has sold 3.8 million copies in its first two days of release, outpacing both previous installments of that other popular young adult series.

In February, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 sold 3.2 million DVDs and Blu-rays on its first weekend, while Eclipse came out to 2.7 million in December 2010.

Final Hunger Games Book to Be Split Into Two Movies

The Hunger Games is going the way to The Twilight Saga and Harry Potter.

Lionsgate announced today that it would split Mockingjay, the final installment in Suzanne Collins’ penned trilogy into two movies, the better to maximize profits of course.

The studio even came out with the extended titles and release dates for the films:

  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will bow worldwide November 21, 2014.
  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will come out on November 20, 2015.

Catching Fire, meanwhile, hits theaters on November 22, 2013.

Jennifer Lawrence bares every emotion possible in The Hunger Games: fear, confidence, exuberance, sadness.

The blockbuster big screen version of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel is already off to a memorable start, earning a staggering $19.7 million at midnight showings across the country this morning and setting a midnight record for the highest-grossing non-sequel ever.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 Trailer to Precede The Hunger Games

In case you somehow needed another reason to get excited for the March 23 opening of The Hunger Games…

Sources confirm that the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will debut in front of Katniss, Peeta and company in theaters across the country. It’s a move that makes perfect business sense, as Lionsgate (distributor of The Hunger Games) acquired Summit Entertainment last month.

The Hunger Games Super Bowl Trailer: New Footage!

Talk about perfect timing.

Just as our friends at Movie Fanatic are offering readers two free tickets to The Hunger Games premiere in Los Angeles, Lionsgate has released the second official trailer for this March blockbuster.

It features an extended look at the Reaping; a long look at Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman; and heavy emphasis on the all-important Mockingjay, along with plenty of Jennifer Lawrence, of course. But enough from us. Sit back and take in the new footage below!

Earlier today, 100 puzzle pieces were passed around the Internet, as various sites – including our friends at Movie Fanatic! – were selected to Tweet clues that would eventually come together and form the latest poster for The Hunger Games.

And here it is!

The mesmerizing image features Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen, bow and arrow in hand, standing in the middle of the Capitol arena, surrounded by flags of herself and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta. Does anyone else have goosebumps?

After a quick glance at the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly, it’s clear: Jennifer Lawrence IS Katniss Everdeen.

But how did the 20-year old blonde transform into the protagonist of The Hunger Games? She talks about the process in the EW feature piece.

On her hair: “I think I just have to stay tan. Or I’ll look like the girl from The Ring.”

The Hunger Games Casts Cato and Clove

The Hunger Games has rounded out its Tributes.

Alexander Ludwig and Isabelle Fuhrman have landed the key roles of Cato and Clove in the film, the District 2 representatives who serve as major foils for Katniss and Peeta during the Games themselves.

Ludwig is best known for a part in The Race to Witch Mountain, while Fuhrman guest-starred on The Whole Truth last year.

The additions of these young stars mean the movie has filled every Tribute role from the book. It also found its Haymitch yesterday in the form of Woody Harrelson.

Who Will Wes Bentley Play in The Hunger Games?

Wes Bentley has joined the cast of The Hunger Games.

The actor, best known for his role in America Beauty and most recently seen in Jonah Hex, will take on the role of Seneca Crane in the big screen adaption of Suzanne Collins’ popular trilogy.

The Head Gamemaker of the 74th Hunger Games, Crane suffers an undesirable fate soon after that event is completed.

Bentley is younger than we imagined Crane to be, and the casting of a somewhat well-known actor implies that the Gamemaker may have more of a speaking role in the film than he has in the book.

Confirmed: Elizabeth Banks Joins The Hunger Games

It’s official. Elizabeth Banks is joining the film adaptation of The Hunger Games along with the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin actress, 37, broke the news on Twitter. Banks writes:

“I can now confirm I’m EFFIE TRINKET in The Hunger Games. So excited!”

The rumor of Elizabeth’s casting surfaced earlier in April, but was not confirmed until now. The film, based on the best-selling novel, is getting huge buzz.
