Chrysler Super Bowl Commercial Controversy: An Ad for Obama?

GLADD wants Roland Martin to be fired for his comments related to the David Beckham H&M commercial that aired during last night’s Super Bowl.

Conversely, Karl Rove and a few other Republicans are afraid that a different Super Bowl ad was created with the aim of getting President Barack Obama rehired.

The spot in question is narrated by Clint Eastwood and touts both Chrysler and the turnaround of the auto industry in Detroit, with the actor saying via voiceover: It’s “halftime in America and our second half’s about to begin.”

Melanie Amaro Teams with Elton John for Pepsi Super Bowl Commercial

For all the criticism leveled at the first season of The X Factor – which resulted in the dismissal of Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and Steve Jones last week – no one took issue with the show’s champion.

Melanie Amaro can seriously sing.

And Super Bowl viewers will find out for themselves on Sunday, as the 19-year old teams with Elton John for a 60-second Pepsi commercial. Said the latter: “Pepsi wanted to make me ‘King for a Day’ on Super Bowl Sunday. How could I possibly pass that up?”

What, exactly, is he talking about? Watch the spot now and see for yourself:

What was the Best Commercial of Super Bowl XLV?

Christina Aguilera flubbed, the Black Eyes Peas lit up and, somewhere along the way, Aaron Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But in the minds of many viewers, Super Bowl XLV was all about what happened in between these events. Namely, the commercials.

From Eminem returning home to a mini version of Darth Vader using his Force, car companies came up with the most creative advertisements. In our opinion, at least. What’s yours? Check out the following spots and then vote on your favorite.

Cowboys & Aliens Movie Trailer: Harrison Ford! Daniel Craig! Olivia Wilde Nude!

Daniel Craig. Harrison Ford. The direction of Iron Man. Teases of Olivia Wilde nude in front of a fire. THIS is how you do a movie trailer!

As one of several summer blockbusters that premiered commercials during Super Bowl XLV, Cowboy & Aliens kept it simple. The following spot featured its stars and a lot of action sequences, while keeping us guessing about the overall concept:

A bunch of cowboys do battle with an invading group of aliens?!? Consider us intrigued, and hopeful for an expanded focus on these Wilde scenes. Check out the full preview now:

Pepsi Max Super Bowl Ads: Hit or Miss?

Pepsi Max ran some … interesting Super Bowl commercials last night. All the taste, no calories … part humor. Some of the spots were better than others.

While some ads went for a star-studded smash (see Best Buy, Bieber) or just to get their names out there, Pepsi Max opted for these standard, slapstick gags.

Whether they’re hit or miss – and we don’t mean that runner getting hit in the head with a can of the stuff – depends on which spot, and your sense of humor:

Super 8 Movie Trailer: What the… ?!?

Some Super Bowl XLV commercials left us inspired (see Chrysler, Eminem). Others left us moved (see Volkswagen, mini Darth Vader).

But one left us confused, intrigued and excited for the arrival of June 10: the first official trailer for Super 8.

A science-fiction movie whose premise remains unclear (it’s set in 1979 Ohio and centers around an unusual discovery made by children with a video camera) what we see in the following preview is enough to prompt us to buy a ticket:

Super 8 is produced by Steven Spilberg, directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Kyle Chandler. We’re in.

Best Buy Super Bowl Commercial: What’s a Bieber?

Three weeks prior to Super Bowl XLV, Justin Bieber Tweeted that he was filming a commercial, couldn’t really tell followers what it entailed, but “when you guys find out it’s gonna be funny as heck.”

We found out last night. And the singer was correct. How so? This photo pretty much says it all.

In the Best Buy ad, Justin is featured in contrast to Ozzy Osbourne, who is out of touch with the latest technology. At the conclusion of the spot, the aging rocker asks:”What’s a Bieber?!” A short, seemingly old man replies: “I don’t know. It kind of looks like a girl.”

Volkswagen Super Bowl Ad: Cutest Commercial Ever?

Volkswagen didn’t go for cheap laughs or celebrity stunts during last night’s Super Bowl.

Instead, the car maker aimed straight for heart in the following 30-second spot, featuring a child dressed up as Darth Vader, trying his hardest to produce The Force.

It didn’t work on his dog, however, or on the washing machine or on a stationary bike. But then the boy’s father arrived home, pulled his vehicle into the driveway and… see for yourself. The final reaction shot may be the most adorable scene in commercial history:

Faith Hill Super Bowl Commercial: Funny or Tasteless?

Overtly sexual ads shoved down our throats is not exactly rare (see last night’s Kim Kardashian Super Bowl commercial), but Faith Hill threw us for a bit of a loop.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the country singer’s spot for Teleflora played out very sweetly … before throwing a crude one-liner in America’s lap.

The upside? Because it’s Faith Hill, the punchline was unexpected and well executed. The downside? It’s Faith Hill. The straight-laced star’s fans may disapprove.

What do you think? Funny and harmless, or too far? Check it out …

Kim Kardashian Super Bowl Commercial: Hot or Not?

Kim Kardashian did what she does best during her Super Bowl XLV commercial for Sketchers last night:

The reality star wore very little clothing and flirted with men. She sent a bad message at the same time, telling viewers that you don’t need a personal trainer as long as you walk around in these sneakers.

Go ahead and try that, people. Eschew working out for a type of footwear. See how far it gets you.

Eminem Chrysler 200 Super Bowl Commercial: Imported From Detroit

Hyped as Super Bowl commercials may be, most are gimmicky and quite forgettable. Chrysler’s effort featuring the Motor City’s own Eminem was anything but.

Two minutes of gritty footage set to the rapper’s “Lose Yourself” served as both an homage to Detroit’s past and a look to the future in introducing the Chrysler 200.

Moving doesn’t usually describe ads during football, but it sure applies here as the iconic American brand – and city – defiantly picks itself up off the mat.

With an assist from Eminem and a gospel choir, this is a bad ass commercial …

Justin Bieber And Ozzy Osbourne Pitch Best Buy Wares In Super Bowl Ad

Electronics retailer Best Buy put Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne in their Super Bowl commercial this year, an odd pairing that worked to decent effect.

The company didn’t sugar coat why they chose Bieber with marketing chief Drew Panayiotou revealing:

“Justin Bieber is the biggest star out there, but that’s not why he’s in the spot,” and “He symbolically represents something important to the brand message.”

While the spot only lasted 30 seconds it’s rumored that Bieber made a cool million dollars for his role in the ad and he doesn’t even appear in the entire 30 seconds.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: Super Bowl Sneak Peek!

You won’t be seeing an ad that states Jesus hates Obama on Super Bowl Sunday.

But you will be seeing more footage than ever before from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth installment in this beloved franchise, the movie comes out on May 20, features Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and introduces Penelope Cruz as his love interest.

The following video only contains 10 seconds of the trailer that will air during the Steelers/Packers game, but what an action-packed 10 seconds it is!

Justin Bieber to Star in Best Buy Super Bowl Commercial

Okay, fine, Fox. We’ll tune in for Super Bowl XLV.

While the network has deemed an adultery-themed website as inappropriate for the February 6 broadcast, it’s gladly given a greenlight to a Best Buy as that will feature Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne.

“Justin Bieber is the biggest star out there, but that’s not why he’s in the spot,” Best Buy marketing chief Drew Panayiotou told USA Today. “He symbolically represents something important to the brand message.”

The company won’t reveal just what Bieber and Osbourne will be up to in the commercial (which was filmed this month at Universal

Doritos to Air Gay-Themed Super Bowl Commercial

It’s hard to remember a year when so many Super Bowl commercials had been at the center of so much controversy, weeks before the big game was even played.

Fox has already rejected a couple of ads – one for an adultery-based website, the other claiming that Jesus hates Obama – but sources say the following spot will air on February 6 at some point.

It’s a 30-second commercial for Doritos. We don’t think it’s nearly as troubling as the fact that Kim Kardashian will be featured in a Sketchers ad during the Packers/Steelers game, but others might take issue with the theme. Watch now and find
