As noted in our Les Miserables review, we weren’t huge fans of this big screen adaption.
But Anne Hathaway deserves all the Oscar buzz circulating around Hollywood, thanks to her rendition of the classic track “I Dreamed a Dream.”
Was it the best version we’ve heard of this single over the last few years, though?
Susan Boyle rose to fame by covering the song on Britain’s Got Talent, while Lea Michele and Idina Menzel teamed up for a rendition on Glee.

Russell Crowe had to be bailed out by the U.S. Coast Guard over the weekend after a kayaking trip went wrong off the coast of New York’s Long Island.
The star, who is in the area filming Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, launched from Cold Spring Harbor Saturday afternoon, but got lost at sea as it grew dark.
Crowe and a friend managed to make their way to shore, beaching their kayaks in Huntington Bay, nearly 10 miles east from where they had set out.
The coast guard was patrolling the area and heard the 48-year-old calling out around 10 p.m. Crowe and his friend were brought to HuntingtonMore >
Hugh Jackman wasn’t just willing to get in the ring, he was eager to.
So the actor tells our partner site, Movie Fanatic, in an interview regarding Real Steel, a film he hopes will appeal to families, kids and adults like.
Affable, generous and gracious, the Australian talked about about the film’s intricacies, as well as two other major movie projects he has coming up within the next 12 months: Wolverine and Les Miserables with Russell Crowe.
She claims to be the perfect homemaker, but a new book calls into question Martha Stewart as a perfect mother. And the author of this book? Martha’s daughter, Alexis.
The 46-year old slams her famous parent in “Whateverland: Learning to Live Here,” writing of her childhood: “If I didn’t do something perfectly, I had to do it again. I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head.”
Labeling the domestic television goddess as “not interesting in being kid-friendly,” Alexis goes into detail about Martha’s Christmas present philosophy (“”She used to make me wrap my own presents…”) andMore >
Christmas is about to come prematurely.
On November 4, Kal Penn and John Cho reprise the roles that made them famous in A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. And, of course, they’re bringing Neil Patrick Harris back with them.
Among the adventures previewed below: the boys hot box a toddler, Harris mocks Jesus Christ and Santa Claus gets shot in the face. Yes, it’s the first stoner-based holiday movie, and it’s in 3D. Check out the official, just-released trailer now.
We love Prince William and Kate Middleton, but suffice it to say William & Catherine: A Royal Romance won’t be winning any major awards come Oscar time.
If this teaser is any indication, the Hallmark Channel film looks even cheesier than the company’s greeting cards … which we suppose is to be expected.
Still, the acting displayed here by Alice St. Clair (Kate Middleton), Dan Amboyer (Prince William) and Victor Garber (Prince Charles)? Not un-amazing.
Hello, Hallmark? The Unintentional Comedy Hall of Fame is on Line 1 …

What does Ryan Gosling like to do late at night?
Drive around the City of Angels, obviously. Apologies to any of you ladies out there hoping we were going in a different direction with that one.
Our friends at Reel Movie News attended the premiere of Gosling’s Drive (in theaters Sept. 16) at the Los Angeles Film Festival Friday night.
RMN spoke with Ryan and co-star Christina Hendricks on the red carpet about their project, in which a Hollywood stunt driver gets into trouble after becoming part of a heist gone terribly wrong. Check out the interviews below:More >
Green Lantern was trashed by movie critics around the country. It also featured Blake Lively with her clothes on for a change.
Despite these two drawbacks, the superhero film was number-one at the box office, beating out a pair of sequels, Jim Carrey’s latest big screen effort and J.J. Abrams’ alien adventure.
The weekend’s top five highest grossing films were:
- Green Lantern: $52.7 million
- Super 8: $21.3 million
- Mr. Popper’s Penguins: $18.2 million
- X-Men: First Class: $11.5 million
- The Hangover Part II: $9.6 million
Hollywood was taken over by Green Lantern fever last night.
Every bit as charismatic and handsome in person, Ryan Reynolds walked the red (black) carpet at the Green Lantern premiere, speaking with fans and reporters alike outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd.
Our partners at Reel Movie News were lucky enough to speak with the A-list lead about the film and chatted with some of his co-stars as well.
Gabrielle Giffords has taken a major step on her path to a full recovery.
The Arizona Congresswoman, who was shot in the head by a crazed gunman in January, was released from a hospital in Houston yesterday. She will soon begin outpatient care.
“We are very excited that she has reached the next phase of her rehabilitation,” said Dr. Gerard Francisco, the hospital’s chief medical officer, who will continue to supervise Giffords.

Academy award-winning actor Russell Crowe is being eyed to play the Kryptonian father of Superman in the forthcoming movie “Man of Steel” which stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, and Kevin Costner as his human father, Jonathan Kent.
According to reports, negotiations are now ongoing to give the part to Crowe who last starred in “The Next Three Days,” which earned just $21 million at the North American box office. The role of the Kryptonian father of Superman, which only amounted to 15 minutes of screen time in the past Superman movie series was still a hit among the fans of theMore >
Russell Crowe is in a bit of a hot spot after tweeting much about his views on circumcision. His vocal opinion came after a fan asked him about this issue. His reply on Twitter was pretty much how we all know Russell Crowe and his candid, non- amorous, rough around the edges expressive ways. He tweets on circumcision as barbaric and stupid and questions the matter on our position to correct nature. “ Is it real that God requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”

There’s no defending Tracy Morgan’s recent homophobic rant, in which he referred to gays who commit suicide as “pussies” and said he’d stab his son if he were to come out of the closet.
Tina Fey, who works with Morgan on 30 Rock and has known him for years, isn’t trying to. She said the “violent imagery” of the diatribe was “disturbing” to her and Morgan clearly “went too far.”
But the actress also stood up for her co-star in general, telling TMZ yesterday that Morgan isn’t a bad person.
Morgan’s hate-filled speech “doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful manMore >
Once again, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated a large chunk of change to a very good cause.
In this case, it’s $500,000 to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to assist the residents of Joplin, Missouri, whose town was destroyed by a tornado last month.
“With the devastating loss of thirty percent of the city, the Joplin community faces great challenges ahead. Having spent much of my childhood there, I know these people to be hardworking, humble and especially resilient,” said Pitt.
Added Jolie: “Our hearts go out to the families in Joplin who have lost so much.”

He lasted one more movie than Megan Fox did, Shia LaBeouf made it clear today: he’s finished with the Transformers franchise.
“I’m not coming back to do another one. I don’t think [director Michael Bay] will either,” the actor told MTV News. “It’s still a hot property, I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.”
But should they?
LaBeouf does claim Dark of the Moon is the “best movie” yet, in terms of “action and geography.” But critics slammed the sequel and many consider the franchise to be the epitome of mindless,More >
