Kathie Lee Gifford to Replace Regis Philbin?

Now that would be something.
Earlier this week, Regis Philbin announced his last day on Live With Regis and Kelly would be November 18, 2011. His replacement? Still very unclear.
Here’s what a source at ABC is saying about it, though:
“They would love to be able to tempt Kathie Lee Gifford back. It would be a huge TV event, returning to the show she started with Regis Philbin.”
“Plus, at the end of the day, TV is all about ratings and no one that has filled in for Regis has generated anywhere near [the] ratings or buzz.”
How’s NBC, her current employer, feeling about that?

Regis Philbin Quits ‘Live With Regis And Kelly’ Over Pay Cut

Regis Philbin decided it was time to leave Live With Regis And Kelly after he was told he would be receiving a paycut due to poor ratings on his former hit morning show.
Currently Regis Philbin rakes in upwards of $18 to $20 million per year, however after talking to ABC executives his now fired agent Jim Griffin told Regin that they couldn’t come to a deal that would secure the same amount of money.
Regis is believed to have told co-host Kelly Ripa about his decision just 15 minutes before going on the air to announce that he would be leaving ABC.

Regis Philbin Announces Retirement

Regis Philbin is calling it a career after 28 years on the morning shift.
The 79-year-old made the announcement this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly, saying he’ll officially tape his last show towards the end of the summer.
During his announcement, Regis joked, “There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people.”
He didn’t give a specific date for his final show. Here’s the clip:
