David Rakoff, Award-Winning Author, Dead at 47

David Rakoff, an award-winning author best known for his dark humor and cynical outlook on life, passed away today after a long battle with cancer. He was 47.
Rakoff wrote for The New York Times and Newsweek, among other publications, and his essay collection “Half Empty” won the Thurber Prize for American Humor. He also penned the bestselling books “Don’t Get Too Comfortable” and “Fraud.”
Rakoff’s death was confirmed by Doubleday and Anchor Books.

Garrett Reid, Son of Philadelphia Eagles Coach, Found Dead

Tragic news today out of the world of professional sports: Garrett Reid, the son of Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid, was found dead in his room at the club’s training camp at Lehigh University. He was 29.
Reid’s body was found by local police after a 911 call was placed at 7:20 a.m.
Police chief Edward Shupp says “no suspicious activities” have been reported.
The team gathered for practice this morning, without Andy Reid present, and said a prayer prior to assistant coaches leading the squad through a walk-through.

Andy Murray of Great Britain won an Olympic gold medal for the host country in tennis on Sunday, stunning top-ranked Roger Federer in straight sets.

Emily Deschanel is pregnant!
The 34-year-old actress and her husband, David Hornsby, are expecting their first child, her sister Zooey Tweeted and Emily’s rep later confirmed.
The Bones star and Hornsby, a writer-actor best known for his role as Rickety Cricket on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, began dating in 2007.
The couple got married in an intimate ceremony in L.A. last September. Deschanel is due later this year. Congratulations to the parents-to-be!

Radio Host DJ Megatron Fatally Shot In NYC

(HMG Celebrity News) – Radio and TV personality DJ Megatron, was shot to death early Sunday, his manager and police said. According to his manager Regg Rocc, Megatron was shot in the chest and killed while heading to a store near his home in Staten Island at around 2 a.m. on Sunday. No arrests have been made in the shooting. the 32-year-old deejay, born Corey McGriff, worked at a number of hip-hop and R&B stations, starting in New York (98.7 Kiss FM and Hot 97) and Boston (WBOT Hot 97.7). If Michael Vick goes missing with no trace in the next week or so, we’ll just assume Oprah had him “removed” from existence. She can do that right? It turns out the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has canceled his Oprah interview.
Vick was already scheduled to film an interview with Oprah for her talk show, however he “abruptly canceled the interview” just a few hours before he was set to get on a plan and head to Chicago on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources close to the Oprah show, he was set to talk about his time in prison, his Humane Society work and his return to the NFL.
