The Hunger Games is going the way to The Twilight Saga and Harry Potter.
Lionsgate announced today that it would split Mockingjay, the final installment in Suzanne Collins’ penned trilogy into two movies, the better to maximize profits of course.
The studio even came out with the extended titles and release dates for the films:
- The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will bow worldwide November 21, 2014.
- The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will come out on November 20, 2015.
Catching Fire, meanwhile, hits theaters on November 22, 2013.
Fireworks – the one that didn’t fail miserably at least – weren’t the only things that exploded on July 4.
The Amazing Spider-Man spun out $23.4 million yesterday alone, combing with Tuesday’s total for an overall box office haul so far of $59.3 million. It’s on track to gross over $125 million in its first six days of release.
Where does this figure rank in history?
Yesterday’s tally goes down as the second-best showing ever on the Fourth of July, trailing only the original Transformers, which banked $29.1 million on the same Wednesday in 2007.
[HMG Celebrity News] – The colorful love life in which Hugh Grant has indulged would make a great film, but he says he’s now ready to settle down and he seems to have chosen ‘Miss Right’ – a Chinese lady called Tinglan Hong.
Hugh’s most famous romance was his 13-year courtship of Elizabeth Hurley which ended in May of 2000. He then met and dated the human rights activist Jemima Khan in ’04, but they split in 2007 .
And let’s not overlook the infamous tryst with Hollywood hooker, Divine Brown. That was in June ’95 – while he was still dating Liz.

(HMG Celebrity News) – The new sitcom ‘The Paul Reiser Show’ from ‘Mad About You’ star Paul Reiser, has been canceled by NBC after just two episodes. The 3.3 million in the coveted 18-49 year old demographic who watched the first episode were the fewest ever for an NBC in-season comedy premiere. A million fewer people tuned in for episode number two. Reiser said during NBC-Universal’s summer press day last week that they rushed the show to air: “This was shortest ramp up in the history of television. Literally 20 days ago [NBC] said, ‘We’re putting you up,’ and we said, ‘OK, great,’ ”More >

Although she’s busy helping Jennifer Anison adopt a child, Angelina Jolie found time yesterday to attend the Hollywood premiere of her latest movie, Salt.
The incredibly awesome actress showed up on the red carpet of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre alongside life partner Brad Pitt. She signed autographs for fans looked generally thrilled to be there:
Other stars at the event included Jon Voight, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber.

(HMG) – A clean cut looking Brad Pitt joined his wife Angelina Jolie at the premiere of her new movie, “Salt” Monday night in Los Angeles. Unfortunately Brad never took his sunglasses off for the cameras, but it’s nice to see him without all the facial hair. Jolie’s father and brother, Jon Voight and James Haven were also on hand for the special screening. Liev Schreiber who co-stars with Angelina in Salt, also took his spouse, Naomi Watts, to join the glamorous event. Jolie who plays “Evelyn Salt,” was originally scripted as a man Edwin A. [HMG] – Many actors head for the hills to escape the stress of the job, but Liev Schreiber has picked a new country. He’s ignored a date with Angelina Jolie and hopped a flight to Tahiti, and sources suggest it could mean the end for him and Naomi Watts.
Rumors of splits, and even a secret marriage in the pair’s five-year connection have frequently appeared in by the press, only to be promptly denied by the couple. But Liev’s departure for foreign parts without either Naomi or their two sons have put the rumor mill into high gear.

Films opening this week include Robin Hood (with Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett), Letters to Juliet (Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave), and Just Wright (Queen Latifah, Common). If those don’t interest you, there’s Iron Man 2, which looks as exciting and fast-paced as the first one, and with great graphics to boot. There’s also Clash of the Titans for a bit of Ray Harryhausen-inspired fun, The Losers for a gritty adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name, or A Nightmare on Elm Street, if you want a knuckle-gripping fright.
