‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ smashes $1-billion mark
In a record that puts close to a tie with the ‘Harry Potter’ series, Paramount Pictures have announced ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ has grossed a stunning $1-billion in box office sales.
Becoming only the third film this year to achieve such a feat, ‘Transformers’ earned $338-million in the US up to last Monday, and $663-million in the rest of the world.
It’s also the first movie in the studio’s 99-year history to score the mystical $1-billion gross.

It was expected to be the blockbuster hit of the summer, and it’s looking like it’ll live up to those expectations but fall short of its prequel.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (otherwise affectionately known as Transformers 3) wrapped up a $37.3 million pay day Wednesday, including an additional $5.5 million on early sneak peaks on Tuesday. This gives the Michael Bay flick the top opening day trophy for 2011 — just outpacing previous holder Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which debuted to $34.8 million, including $4.7 million in midnights, on a Friday.
