Elmo is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Dan Sandler, who dons an Elmo costume on the streets of cities around the country, was arrested yesterday for trying to extort $2 million from The Girl Scouts of America.
According to The Associated Press, Sandler is accused of sending harassing emails and voicemails to an organization supervisor in which he threatens to spread rumors of sex abuse within the Girl Scouts until he’s properly compensated.

Matt Lauer: Demeaning and Dismissive of Today Show Staffers?

Its no secret that Matt Lauer and Ann Curry did not get along well during the latter’s tenure as co-host of Today.
But a new report suggests Curry has plenty of company in that regard, as an insider tells Radar Online:
“The way Matt treats staffers at work is so derogatory and dismissive… He is so demeaning to many people on the staff. He is cordial to his fellow hosts and the senior executives, but to anyone below him they say he treats them like dirt.”
Dirt, of course, could also describe ratings for the program, which consistently now loses out to Good Morning America.

Savannah Guthrie is engaged!!!
The co-anchor agreed to marry her boyfriend of four year, Michael Feldman, over the weekend, making the announcement this morning on NBC.
“Good for you and congratulations to Mr. Feldman,” said embattled colleague Matt Lauer. “He’s a great guy.”
Guthrie, who divorced BBC News presenter Mark Orchard in 2009, said she will not broadcast the nuptials on TV, a blow to her pathetically-rated network.
Feldwman works as a political and communications advisor.

Tom Cruise Wiretapping Lawsuit: Dismissed!

A judge has officially dismissed a $5 million wiretapping lawsuit against actor Tom Cruise and his longtime attorney Bert Fields, according to reports.
The case dates all the way back to 2009, when Bold magazine editor Michael Davis Sapir sued the actor and his lawyer for hiring Anthony Pellicano.
Allegedly, Cruise and Fields hired the former private investigator to spy on him by tapping his phones in the midst of another lawsuit with the actor.

It’s been a very tough year for Matt Lauer.
The Today Show host has come under extreme fire for how he and NBC fired Ann Curry, while his program has sank to second in the ratings behind Good Morning America.
Speaking to The Daily Beast about the departure of his ex-colleague, Lauer admits it didn’t exactly go smoothly.
“I don’t think the show and the network handled the transition well,” says Lauer. “You don’t have to be Einstein to know that. It clearly did not help us. We were seen as a family, and we didn’t handle a family matter well.”

Vampire Diaries Spinoff: Coming to The CW!

The CW is reportedly spinning off The Vampire Diaries into a new series called The Originals, starring Joseph Morgan (Klaus) and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley).
An upcoming episode of The Vampire Diaries, the network’s biggest hit, will serve as a “backdoor pilot” for The Originals. Tentatively, that’s set for April 25.
The title refers to Klaus’ status as one of the original vampires in the show’s mythology. Guy has been doing his badass, yet charming thing for a long time.
