It’s one of only two guarantees in this world, so when a celebrity leaves us, it’s never entirely surprising. But that doesn’t make it any less tragic.

From household names to those we barely got to know, and from aging stars to those taken far too soon, we bid farewell to so many in 2010.

On the heels of Leslie Nielsen’s death comes another sad passing in the Hollywood community. Irvin Kershner, director The Empire Strikes Back, has died.

Leslie Nielsen Dead At 84

Leslie Nielsen, star of Airplane and the Naked Gun series, among other comedic and serious films has died, he was 84 years old.

Nielsen passed away at a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday. Nielsen is said to have been suffering from complications due to pneumonia.

The actors passing was confirmed by his nephew Doug Nielsen:

“Today at 5:30 with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away. It’s very sad. But he died peacefully, surrounded by his friends, his family and his wife.”

Leslie Nielsen Passes Away at 84

Leslie Nielsen, an actor who starred in some of the funniest movies ever made, has passed away from complicated related to pneumonia. He was 84.

Best known for his deadpan delivery of ridiculous lines, Nielsen anchored such films as Airplane! and The Naked Gun. His agent confirmed that he died near his home in Fort Lauderdale early Sunday evening, in the company of his “lovely wife and friends.”
