Scotty McCreery Crosses His Heart on Idol

Scotty McCreery sang George Strait’s “Cross My Heart” on Idol this week.

For a country singer to use George Strait, well, they’re gonna have to be good, ’cause they’re gonna be compared to George Strait. Did Scotty pull it off?

It seemed to us that he had trouble with his pitch sometimes, struggled with some notes and didn’t exactly get a lot of favors from the American Idol band.

Casey Abrams is Not Going Anywhere

Casey Abrams, who was voted off American Idol the first week of the finals, only to be bailed out by the judges, is doing his best to prove himself worthy of the save.

The stripped-down version of Credence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” he performed last night should keep him around another week for sure.

His energy and playing the stand-up bass in a cool, jazzy arrangement more than compensated for high-pitched vocals that were a little over the top at times.

Angelina Jolie on Golden Globe Nomination: LOL!

Now that’s comedic.

Angelina Jolie is as confused as the rest of us at her Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Comedy or Musical … for The Tourist.

Come on, Hollywood Foreign Press. If you want to toss an A-list star a nomination strictly for the buzz or access, go ahead. But … it’s a spy thriller.

Thanks, Golden Globes … I think!

Chelsea Handler’s enemy said she and Johnny Depp “were laughing because it’s the first time that I’ve been in the comedic category … it’s new for me.”

She will face off against Annette Bening and Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All

Happy Birthday, Ian Somerhalder!

We can’t lie: THG has a crush on Ian Somerhalder. And it isn’t simply because this is one Sexy Beast.

It’s also because the Louisiana native is taking an active role in helping to clean up the Gulf Coast and is stirring up Emmy talk these days with his performance on The Vampire Diaries. Really, he is!

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he looks like this. In honor of the actor’s 32nd birthday, we’ve posted the following photo montage and we’re asking readers to send in their best wishes… if they can stop drooling for a few moments, that is.

Justin Bieber Can Do Anything!

Justin Bieber got himself in a spot of trouble last week in Great Britain, as viewers of his performance on X Factor took exception with the singer’s obvious lip-syncing.

But the 16-year faced no such scandal in Spain, which is where he headed to next. Justin was honored with a gold record (pictured below) and also wowed fans with the following display of yet another talent.

During an appearance on a Madrid TV show, it took this superstar just 90 seconds to solve a Rubik’s Cube. Amazing.

Steven Tyler Butchers National Anthem At Boston Bruins Game

Remember when Rosanne Barr butchered the National Anthem? At least she knew she was killing it on purpose, this week Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler sung the anthem and completely mutilated it.

Tyler was singing at a Boston Bruins game and as if the NHL doesn’t have enough problems with finding viewers, they now have to find the one’s who went running from the hills after hearing his awful performance.

Sadly his performance came during the teams Thursday Season opener…not a very good way to start a new hockey season.

Here’s the U.S. National Anthem sung by Tyler:

Andrew Garfield Named the New Spider-Man

Sony Pictures has found someone to follow in the webbed footsteps of Tobey Maguire.

Little-known actor Andrew Garfield has won the coveted role, as the franchise is looking for a reboot. It will take us back to a time long before Peter Parker gained his special abilities.

Garfield was born in Los Angeles, but raised in England. He appeared in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and will co-star with Justin Timberlake in the upcoming Facebook-based film Social Network. He received a BAFTA in 2008 for his performance in Boy A.

After receiving the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize at the White House on Wednesday, Paul McCartney serenaded the first lady by singing the Beatles’ popular love song “Michelle” and then joked about how he was going to be the first guy to be “punched out by the President.” When all was said and done McCartney performed a 90 minute concert for the first family and various other attendees.

During his performance President Obama praised McCartney for helping to “lay the soundtrack for an entire generation.”

Here’s McCartney singing “Yesterday” during the White House concert:
