For Cassadee Pope, Terry McDermott and Nicholas David, it came down to this.
The final three performances they delivered last night, along with encores of some of their signature songs thus far, served as their closing arguments.
Only one could be named The Voice, however, and it was all in voters’ hands.
Would it be pitch-perfect rocker Terry? Soulful throwback Nicholas? Pop-country princess Cassadee? Any of the talented trio would make a worthy winner.
But there could be only one, and following an emotional, performance-filled night, we finally have a winner of the NBC hitMore >
Money for Hurricane Sandy relief was not the only thing raised in Madison Square Garden last night.
So were many eyebrows in response to Kanye West’s attire.
Despite performances by The Rolling Stones; Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder; Bon Jovi and many others, the rapper was the talk of Twitter not long after his performance. But not for anything he said or sang.
For the leather skirt he wore:
The outfit has already inspired a Twitter account (@KanyesSkirt), as well as questions over whether West raided the wardrobe of Kim Kardashian.
What do you think of the attire on More >
Really. Seriously. For real, people:
Beyonce is NOT pregnant.
Despite a lack of anything resembling evidence, reports that Beyonce is expecting spread around the Internet this week.
They were shot down first by her mother, and now by a man who would certainly know better than we would.
Jay-Z told E! Online last night that no child is on the way.
“Not tonight,” he said. “Not in nine months – absolutely not.”
Hmmm, well… what about in fewer than nine months? Is he just being coy?!? Is there more immediate news to share?!?
Nope. Not at all.
“Not in one, two, three,More >
Perhaps spurred on by Anderson Cooper, Frank Ocean has become the first hip hop star to openly address his bisexuality.
In a Tumblr post this morning, the rapper – who is part of the group Odd Future and who worked with Kanye West and Jay-Z on “Watch the Throne” – wrote:
Four summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too.
We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I’d see him, and his smile.
Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I wasMore >
Kanye West turns 35 years old today, and we all know how the rapper will celebrate: By marrying Kim Kardashian!
Okay, probably not.
But the artist’s relationship with the busty (seriously, look at the following photo!) reality star has dominated all coverage of West for weeks now. Is this really the same guy who used to stand out for his scandalous quotes and catchy beats? And now he’s been reduced to desperate cliche of dating Kim Kardashian for publicity? So very sad…
Other celebrities celebrating birthdays today include Keenen Ivory Wayans (54), Joan Rivers (79) and Jerry Stiller More >
The Beastie Boys’ MCA, real name Adam Yauch, has died.
The hip hop pioneer was 47. In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for cancer of the parotid gland and a lymph node. He underwent surgery and radiation therapy.
It is unclear as of this posting whether Yauch’s death was related to cancer.
MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 (yes, 1979) with Mike D, and Ad Rock, and went on to churn out some of the most iconic albums in hip-hop.
They trio landed their big break after working with young producer Rick Rubin, who would sign them to his newly-formed Def Jam Recordings in 1984.
Ah, so this is what has brought Kim Kardashian and Kanye West together: a shared enemy.
Not long after someone with a connection to PETA and an unhealthy affection for fur tossed flour all over Kardashian, the organization has come out and responded to a taunt from Kanye in his latest song, “Theraflu.”
As you can hear above, West raps at one point in this new track: “Tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor.”
And, because it just can’t resists any opportunity to make a headline, PETA actually took the bait and replied, via the following statement by SeniorMore >
Let’s be honest: Kristen Bell will never be able to top this video of her crying tears of sloth-based joy. It’s the cutest thing we’ve seen all year.
But the House of Lies star came awfully close during an interview this week on Jimmy Kimmel Live, gushing first about fiance Dax Shepard and his “elegant feet; then discussing her former love of hip hop; before stating that she’ll likely never get naked on TV because Dax has “purchased” her “real estate.”
From there, Bell goes on about her love for The Hunger Games, saying of the trilogy: “This is the piece of literature that in a hundredMore >
Ray J, a hip hop artist and reality star previously best known for videotaping himself having sex with Kim Kardashian, is not taking the death of Whitney Houston well at all.
Describing the late singer as “the love of [Ray J's] life,” a source tells Radar Online that this amateur sex tape director will soon seek professional help.
“He has saved voice mail messages on his cell phone from her that he has been listening to,” this insider claims. “His sister Brandy has urged him to go to counseling to deal with this loss, and he has finally agreed.”
“Ray is just numb and he needs to be able toMore >
Heavy D died last week, shocking and saddening fans and the hip hop community. The 44-year-old’s autopsy results, unfortunately, don’t offer many answers.
The L.A. coroner’s office said Monday it could take several weeks to determine a cause of death because the autopsy was inconclusive, the L.A. Times reports.
Ed Winter, the coroner’s spokesman, said no illegal drugs found at Heavy D’s Beverly Hills home. A doctor prescribed him a drug after he experienced a cough.
The coroner plans to do more toxicology tests “to see what’s in his system,” WinterMore >
Pitbull has come out barking in his legal dispute with Lindsay Lohan, responding to the lawsuit she recently filed against him by calling LiLo a liar and a criminal.
Lohan claims the hip hop star owes her money for disparaging and using her name in the song “Give Me Everything,” in which he name-checks the train wreck.
Hilariously, the track includes the memorable lyric, “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” More hilariously, Lohan says a PITBULL SONG damages her reputation.
Pitbull says that’s ridiculous, but Lohan refused to back down … so his lawyers are taking it to her, askingMore >
If you had said in the 1980’s that the hip hop genre would produce some of the richest recording artists and producers in the world then you would have been laughed at. Back then, the genre was seen as an outlet for the lower income groups and minorities to express themselves. Today, however, this genre has grown by leaps and bounds and its influence can be seen not only in the music industry but in fashion, games and has spurned a few reality television shows.
People admire them and many of us would like to be them, the successful hip hop artists of today rake in millions in record sales,More >
Demi Lovato drops a serious beat in her latest single.
The artist, who has said her upcoming album will feature a touch of hip hop, is joined by Missy Elliott and Timbaland on the track, which is titled “Up All Night.”
“It’s about staying up all night long and singing it to the boy that you like, and it’s flirty and fun and it’s not too grown-up, but it’s grown-up enough,” the 19-year-old told MTV News about the single. Listen to it now:
