Gun violence has actually plunged in the U.S. since its peak in the middle of the 1990s, according to two new studies of government data.
At the same time, a majority of Americans believe it is on the rise.
Gun crime statistics are comprised of murders, assaults, robberies and other crimes, and the Pew Research Center found that they’re down overall.
In less than two decades, the gun murder rate has been nearly cut in half, their research suggested, while other gun crimes fell even more sharply.
This parallels a broader drop in violent crimes committed with or without guns,More >
The first gun made from a 3D printer shot its very first bullets yesterday.
The gun, designed on a computer program and made of plastic, is designed to be easily replicated. Watch this video of the 3D-printed gun in action:3-D Printed Gun
The gun is made by Defense Distributed, a company hoping to spread the prevalence of DIY firearms–what they call “Wiki Weapons.”
3D printing technology is still in its very early stages of development and use. By constructing items from hot plastic, based on a set of plans drawn up on the computer, a user can essential create any 3DMore >
A Fox News segment on gun control and concealed weapon laws led panelist Bob Beckel to somehow question the prevalence of rape on college campuses last night.
Beckel, a liberal co-host of “The Five,” was discussing the proposal to ban concealed weapons on Colorado campuses and debating with his colleagues what a woman might do in the face of an attacker when he asked:
“When was the last time you heard about a rape on campus?”
His fellow panelists reacted in consternation, of course, as the Department of Justice estimated in 2010 that one in four women “will be victims of rape orMore >

A photo of President Barack Obama skeet shooting at Camp David has been released following a claim last week that he engages in the activity regularly.
It is the only known photo of Obama with a gun, and also comes amid a White House-backed push for stronger gun control regulations in the U.S.
The photo shows Obama targeting clay pigeons at the presidential retreat last August, which he said he does “all the time” during stays at the compound.
NRA President David Keene said he is aggressively preparing for “battle” with the White House and Congress over President Obama’s gun control plan.
He also defended the new NRA ad calling Obama an “elitist hypocrite.”NRA Ad: Obama a Hypocrite
Keene criticized Obama’s announcement Wednesday, surrounded by four children from around the U.S., for “using kids to advance an ideological agenda.”
He expressed confidence that few measures would ultimately pass.
“It’s going to be very tough for the president to accomplish some of these things, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do it ifMore >

Piers Morgan’s “interview” with gun rights advocate Larry Pratt grew increasingly heated and even devolved into name-calling Tuesday night on CNN.

Did Connecticut school shooting perpetrator Adam Lanza preview Friday’s stunning massacre on the online forum / bulletin board 4Chan two nights beforehand?
That’s the rumor going around, anyway.
In the following 4Chan forum exchange, an anonymous user purported to be Lanza makes an ominous promise that he will kill himself Friday and it will make the news.
He adds that he lives in Connecticut.
The below screen grabs from 4Chan have been censored, but also appear to show other users egging Adam Lanza on (if it’s really him). Take a look …

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine says President Barack Obama somehow “staged” the recent Colorado shooting as part of a conspiracy to ban guns. Seriously.
At a Tuesday, August 7 performance in Singapore, Mustaine told the crowd, “Back in my country, my president … he’s trying to pass a gun ban.”
“So he’s staging all of these murders, like the ‘Fast And Furious’ thing down at the border … Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there …More >
