Due to leg spasms and muscle pain, Aretha Franklin was unable to attend Whitney Houston’s funeral on Saturday, canceling not only her appearance but a planned performance in honor of her goddaughter, as well.
But the late legend was very much in Franklin’s thoughts the evening before, as she played a concert for fans at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and honored Houston with a pair of covers.
“Remember the hits and forget the misses,” Aretha told the crowd. “I’ll always look back and remember her singing…”

Teaming up with Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams for a tribute to Aretha Franklin, Aguilera remembered every word and received a standing ovation following the performance.

After a mystery illness prompted her to cancel all upcoming events and undergo surgery last week, Aretha Franklin offered very few details to the media.
Now reports say the Queen of Soul is suffering from pancreatic cancer.
A source familiar with the situation told The Detroit News about Franklin’s condition. Detroit’s Fox 2 news also attributing that information to a relative.
Aretha Franklin has not confirmed reports of her diagnosis.
The National Enquirer posted a story on the music legend’s reported illness earlier, prompting some of the speculation regarding the Queen of Soul.

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin took a tumble in her bathtub this week, breaking several ribs.
Franklin was scheduled to perform at Wingate Field on August 9th and then at Asser Levy Seaside Park in Cony Island on August 12.
Both performances were part of an initiative started by Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz and both have been canceled.
Aretha’s reps told the Associated Press that the fall has also caused her to experience abdominal pain and that the shows will be rescheduled once she’s feeling better.
