Simon Cowell and the X Factor – Is He Likeable?
People have noticed a change in Simon Cowell’s attitude since he began his new show, “X-Factor”. There’s only one problem. Is he really more likable? This is a tricky question because “American Idol” fans either loved or hated Cowell. Some loved tuning into the show each week to see him tear apart another contestant, while others thought he was being too harsh and rude to the contestants and other judges. One has to wonder if his new attitude has lost him any of his old “American Idol” fans. Let’s take a closer look.
What’s Changed?
It’s surprising how anyone can change, if only temporarily, when a new love interest is involved. In 2008, Simon Cowell broke up with girlfriend Terri Seymour and quickly replaced her with Mezhgan Hussainy who he was quoted to say softened him and helped him see the world differently. Is it possible that one woman could completely change his world? If that was the case, things may change once again for Cowell as the couple split ways in September 2011.
Simon Opens Up
Cowell has openly admitted to having mood swings. During an episode on “Oprah”, Simon stated, “I get very, very down,” he says. “Pretty much depression. [But] what I always say is, ‘You’re taking yourself too seriously, so stop it.’ At the same time, you should never put a painted smile on. When you’re feeling down, you’re feeling down.” Simon has also stated that he has “dark moods for no reason”.
Has He Gained or Lost Fans?
Fans have mixed feelings over the laid back Simon. Some loved his brutal honesty, while others enjoy the gentler approach he takes with contestants. Of course, one has to wonder if the calm mood will last since splitting from Hussainy. The honest truth of the matter is that people loved Cowell just the way he was on “American Idol”. Not knowing how he will react may have some contestants considering a Pay Day One loan for emergency funds out of the area! Many fans tuned in week after week just to see his reactions. Some people even watched because they couldn’t stand him and wanted to see the other judges reactions to his comments. Either way, Cowell has always been able to draw a crowd.
Simon Cowell may have changed, if only because of love, but that doesn’t necessarily make him more likeable. A lot of fans will tell you that he was great the way he was. We can only sit back and see how his split from “Mish” will affect him.
