The speculation has been transformed into official news, as it has been confirmed that next “Desperate Housewives” season will be its final stretch on television.

ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee teamed up with show’s mastermind Marc Cherry on Sunday (August 7) to break the news that they have mutually decided to bring the Desperate Housewives’ story to its conclusion.

Speaking at the TCA press tour, Lee said, “I just want to make sure this network that put this show on the map had its victory lap.”

Talking about the looming end of his brainchild, Cherry said, “I wanted to go out while the network still saw us as a viable show while we we’re still doing well in the ratings. I wanted to go out in the classiest way possible.”

Cherry killed off any chances of a spin-off series by saying that he wants to try out new stuff and isn’t interested in any such idea. But he did reveal his likeness for Eva Longoria and hinted that a future working opportunity could be created for her on his next projects. The showrunner joked that he will create a new series in which he will put Longoria “in a van and solve mysteries.”

Upon hearing the idea, Lee immediately gave his network’s response: “Bought! Done!”
