Katy Perry’s new song tells of former boyfriend Travis McCoy’s addiction
(HMG) – After reading about this I am thinking Katy Perry does not have a good track record choosing men. Right before falling in love with former sex and drug addict fiance Russell Brand, Katy Perry was romantically involved with lead singer of the band Gym Class Heroes Travis McCoy, who apparently has some significant drug problems of his own. In the song “Circle the Drain” on her upcoming album, “Teenage Dream” include some pretty caustic lyrics about McCoy who she dated on and off in 2008. Perry told Billboard magazine via P6, of the song in a cover story on the singer: “It’s kind of like my ‘You Oughta Know,’ Alanis Morissette moment:”
“Thought I was the exception/ I could rewrite your addiction/ You could have been the greatest/ But you’d rather get wasted/ You fall asleep during foreplay/ ‘Cause the pills you take are more your forté/ I’m not sticking around to watch you go down/ Wanna be your lover/ Not your [bleep]ing mother.”
Perry continues: “You think you’re so rock and roll/ But you’re really just a joke/ Had the world in the palm of your hand/ But you [bleep]ing choked.”
McCoy has previously acknowledged his drug use, blogging about his stint in rehab on his blog, Traviesblog.com, in 2008. He wrote he had been addicted to pharmaceuticals since he was 15 years old.
McCoy is now a solo artist with a hit song this summer, “Billionaire.” Katy of course has moved onto Russell Brand, who has seemingly been on his best behavior so far, but one wonders if that will last given his track record.
