Kate Hudson, Matt Bellamy welcome new childJust occasionally this job lets you report upbeat news, and here’s one example – Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy have just welcomed a baby and both mom and the new-born are both doing well.

Kate, 32, gave birth in an LA hospital last night and there were no complications. The baby is fine but the new parents have not yet said which it is – boy or girl.

The new arrival is the second child for Kate – she already has a 7-year old son, Ryder from her seven year marriage to the Black Crowes’ front-man, Chris Robinson which flamed out in 2007.

Kate and Matt first met in Australia some time ago and became an item last Spring. The news of their impending arrival broke in January and fans have been keenly awaiting this day ever since.

“This is a totally different pregnancy,” Kate told reporters in April. “It couldn’t be more opposite…With Ryder, I didn’t even have a nursery.”

But she did admit the experience was taking its toll:

“I babble a lot. I forget words, and how to put sentences together,” she told the scribes between fits of giggling. “I just give up!”

Kate’s never been keen on marriage but the arrival of a vast engagement ring [which informed sources have priced at around $200,000] may change her mind.

“I haven’t really announced it,” she told Matt Lauer on Today, back on April 27. “I was waiting for someone to notice.”

So could two be the limit? Friends are not sure. Nor is Kate.

“I love being pregnant,” she told reporters last month. “Gosh, I could be pregnant all the time!”

With labor now over the pair’s next plan is a visit to London where Matt is due to record a new album. And their bond still seems strong:

“She’s crazy about him,” one friend confirms. “Kate and Matt are so adorable together. And she’s a great mom.”
