JonBenet Ramsey case reopened by Boulder PD
[HMG Celebrity News] – The 1996 death of JonBenet Ramsey is one of the most vexing mysteries in modern criminal law. But police now believe they have new leads in the case.
On December 26, 1996 JonBenet’s mother, Patsy Ramsey realized her daughter was missing. A ransom note demanded $118,000 for her return. Eight hours later, police found JonBenet in the basement. She’d been beaten and strangled.
Boulder County prosecutors recovered the case from the State’s D.A. in February last year, and have now begun interviews to pursue potential new leads.
“We’ve tailored our investigation, based on recommendations from the advisory committee,” Police Chief Mark Beckner told Fox. “This has included new contacts, and interviews with those who may have relevant information.”
Patsy died of ovarian cancer in 2006, but last December JonBenet’s father, John made a plea for anyone close to the case to share suspicions they had around the time JonBenet was killed.
JonBenet’s older brother Burke – who was just 9 when she died – has also been invited to talk to police. But the family’s attorney, Lin Wood says this meeting is merely an offer and still has no date.
“Whatever the reason for an approach it would have nothing to do with the case, other than John and Burke could help as witnesses,” Wood explained. “For all I know, they got a tip and think Burke could give them new information.”
The Ramsey family has since left Colorado, but legal analyst Scott Robinson who lives close to their former home said it’s too early to say if police have new leads;
“But it would be accurate to say they’re not letting this lie,” he confirmed.
Public opinion at the time focused on Jon or Patsy being the killer, but police records show more than thirty registered sex offenders lived within two miles of the home. All have since been dismissed as suspects.
The case has resisted all attempts at solution for fourteen long years. Whatever comes next, we’ll keep you advised…
