Drug and sex past prevent George Clooney from running for office
(HMG Celebrity News) – George Clooney in a startling admission says he doubts he can run for office because of his history as a womanizer and former drug user.
In a surprising outburst, the actor, 49, said: “I didn’t live my life in the right way for politics, you know. I f***** too many chicks and did too many drugs.”
Called the “21st-Century Statesman” in the Newsweek fluff piece, Clooney said a smart political campaigner would “start from the beginning by saying, ‘I did it all before bloggers get their claws into him.
“(They) would start from the beginning by saying, ‘I did it all. I drank the bong water. Now let’s talk about issues.’ That’s gonna be my campaign slogan: ‘I drank the bong water,’”” he admitted.
Clooney, 49, coincidentally, is playing a flawed presidential candidate in his next film, The Ides of March, which he co-wrote and is directing.
Although Clooney says he won’t seek a political seat, the self-described liberal doesn’t intend to cease his ceaseless political activism anytime soon.
“Celebrity can help focus news media where they have abdicated their responsibility,” he told the news weekly.
“We can’t make policy, but we can ‘encourage’ politicians more than ever before.”
Clooney is currently focusing his energies on helping the people of South Sudan achieve independence from the northern government of Khartoum and applauds fellow stars who use their fame to fight for a cause.
“There is more attention on celebrity than ever before — and there is a use for that besides selling products,” he says. “A lot of the young actors I see coming up in the industry are not just involved, but knowledgeable on a subject and then sharing that with fans.”
