CBS reporter, Lara Logan assaulted by Egyptian mob – hopes to be back at work soon

[HMG Celebrity News] – The events in Egypt last Friday were a triumph for the people, but CBS reporter Lara Logan may remember it as the worst night of her life.

The 39-year old South African native and her crew were covering the celebrations in Tahrir Square for 60 Minutes when they were surrounded by a mob of over 200 people who had been ‘whipped into a frenzy’ by the day’s events, according to a CBS statement. It goes on to say;

“In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and around twenty Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with her team and returned to the US the next morning.”

Lara joined CBS in 2002 after a career in British TV news that included covering the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. She’s also reported from the front lines in Iraq and Kosovo.

Despite being briefly hospitalized for observation after the 30-minute attack Lara is now recovering at home, and is already vowing to get right back to work. She’s told friends what happened in Cairo will not deter her from doing her job and she’s planning to be back at work within weeks.

One source tells TMZ Lara has an ‘incredibly tough constitution. She is going to be OK.”

And Lara was not the only journalist to become a target –  Anderson Cooper was also assaulted and ABC’s Brian Hartman was threatened with being beheaded.
