Blake Lively, Selena Gomez in ‘Sex and the City’ prequel?
A few months ago rumors were rampant that Candace Bushnell’s ‘Sex and the City’ prequel ‘The Carrie Diaries’ would become a film, and Blake Lively and Selena Gomez could star. The rumors fizzled, but it seems the story is back.
The two books which would form the film’s basis, ‘The Carrie Diaries’ and ‘Summer and the City’ follow Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda in their earlier days, during their teenss and early twenties. So, no Mr. Big.
The latest word is 23-year old Blake is in talks for the film, but not as Carrie. That role is now being offered to Mary Kate and Ashley’s younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen. Emma Roberts is thought to be in line for ‘Miranda Hobbs,’ Selena Gomez would be ‘Charlotte’ and Blake would now join the team as ‘Samantha Jones.’
Blake’s rep is currently saying her client has ‘no current plans’ for the role, but that can change.
The original 1998 series pulled some great ratings and spawned two movies which the fans loved but critics despised. That sour reception prompted the suits in charge at HBO to put plans for a third movie on ice and they’ve been there until now…so we’re told.
Nothing is signed yet so don’t start making plans, but Candace herself seems quite keen;
“Definitely needs to be something on the screen,” she told reporters. “Big or small.” She also seems eager to get Selena on-board;
“She’d make a really good young Charlotte. She’s so pretty,” Candace shares. “I was like ‘Wouldn’t she be great?’ Am I right? I’m not good at this. If I say something like that, the next thing I know, people are like ‘No!’”
Is she right?…
