Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy Cast as Villains in Next Batman Film

(HMG Celebrity News) -  Warner Brothers and Christopher Nolan,  have confirmed that Anne Hathaway has landed the female lead as Selina Kyle — the original Catwoman — in the next ‘Batman’ film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’   But will she be edgy enough for this role?

Nolan says in a statement released by the studio: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

Hathaway will share the villain spotlight with Inception star Tom Hardy, who will play Bane, while Christian Bale, will be reprising his role as Batman.

“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” director Christopher Nolan said.

Bane has been one of Batman’s most intelligent and physically powerful foes since making his debut in 1993.

Selina Kyle made her first appearance in the Batman series in 1940 in Batman #1. She plays both a villain and ally to Batman, often a love interest. Michelle Pfeifer played the role in the 1992 film, ‘Batman Returns,’ and a subsequent attempt at a 2004 spinoff movie with Halle Berry, didn’t do very well.

The third Batman film is set for a July 2012 release.
