Inceptions Joseph Gordon Levitt signs with Spielberg for Lincoln[HMG Celebrity News] – After his critically acclaimed role in the Oscar-laden ‘Inception’ Joseph Gordon-Levitt is on course to see his profile improve even further when he stars with Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones in Steven Spielberg’s new biopic, ‘Lincoln.’

Based on the tirelessly researched 2006 book, ‘Team of Rivals’ by famed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, ‘Lincoln’ will star Oscar winner Day-Lewis as our 16th president, with fellow Oscar alumnus Sally Field as his wife, Mary Todd.

Joseph will play Robert Todd Lincoln, the President’s eldest son and the only Lincoln child who didn’t die in his teens. Tommy Lee Jones has also signed to play Thaddeus Stevens, a Pennsylvania congressman who crafted the legislation which enabled Lincoln to win the Civil War.

Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes and Bruce McGill are also in talks to round out the cast.

The movie is being funded by Disney and will be issued on their ‘Touchstone’ label. Shooting is booked to begin this fall in Virginia with a release slated for late 2012.

To land a main role in a Spielberg picture at the age of just 30 is a notable feat, but for someone with a career arc of the kind Joseph is savoring it’s barely more than a day on the job; His role in ‘Inception’ has established his name and his next appearance in ‘Hesher’ with Natalie Portman will doubtless enhance it.

Add a key role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Batman finale ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and you have a trio of roles to which most actors in his age group can only aspire.

If you saw ‘Inception’ or you like the idea of Spielberg guiding Joseph in ‘Lincoln,’ let’s hear your review. I’d say it’s got ‘Oscar’ written all over it but what do you think?…
